君に逢いたくて

I haven't posted a song translation in awhile, and I go and post one by Gackt. *gaspies!* I'm making an AMV with this song. I'm probably going to subtitle it, so I need to make sure I have an accurate translation that sounds fluid. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

君に逢いたくて (I Miss You)
Vocals: Gackt

I miss you, I miss you more than anyone
I want you to hold my hand once more

I'm still searching for a trace of you left behind in this room
If I close my eyes I feel like even now you're by my side
Even though I knew, of course,
That we would part

I miss you, I miss you more than anyone
Because I could never do such a thing as forget you
As I am unable to see you, even though I've hurt you so many times,
I want you to hold my hand once more

The moment the two of us met, I fell in love and embraced you impulsively
You smiled at me and said "silly" as you kissed me softly
Amid meetings and partings
Everyone becomes aware of true love

I miss you, I miss you more than anyone
Under the starry sky, where we first met
I could not express the feelings I wanted to
But my heart is still searching for you

Even though I knew, of course,
That we would part

I miss you, I miss you more than anyone
Because I could never do such a thing as forget you
If it’s for you, yes if it's for you...

I want you to hold my hand once more
The hand that held mine was always warm

This song can be found on: 君に逢いたくて, Love Letter

還りの泉

Hello, it's me again, back with yet another song from that one boy we all love.
This time the song is Kaeri no Izumi, the title of which translates to something like "Spring of Return." That's the spring as in a fountain of water, not the season. *grins* And really, I don't like my translation of the title. Suggestions?
There's really not much to say about this song except that it has now had two versions, neither of which have been on a full album. The first was on his Keep on Dancin' single and the second was a string quartet version included with the Scene~Nokoshitai Fuukei photo book.

還りの泉 (Spring of Return)
Lyrics, Music, and Vocals: Naozumi Takahashi

Sitting with my hands to the cold streets
The dream seems like it will fade like heat stolen away
I’m being drawn into the sky broken by the buildings
Where is my place to return to?
My white breath drifts upwards into the sky and becomes clouds
I pray you will be able to see them

The hurried clock chimes a song of snow
The scene of you so far away from me wavers
As the wind blew through the subway entrance
I stood frozen, gazing before me
I will cross over the snow to meet you
The fountain that awaits spring flows toward the place I return to

Your fallen tears flow on and on...

Like the white snow melts and goes back
I walk out upon the path that I found
I will cross over the snow to meet you
The fountain that awaits spring flows toward the place I return to

This song can be found on: Keep on Dancin'

Cendrillon

Back again with some NeoRoma love in honor of Isato's and my NeoRomance Event Anniversary on the 20th.
This is Yuunoki Azuma's song from "Kin-iro no Coruda". And while the song is quite soft and Yuunoki is very serious, the seiyuu have taken the title and used it as a sentai-style attack, so whenever I think about it, I have go: "Cen-dri-ON~!" (with the movements and everything). ^_^
I'm not terribly pleased with the translation, because the language just doesn't quite translate as well as I'd like. But I made a decent change to the first line, and was happier with that. So here it is.

Cendrillon - - Cinderella
Words: Ishikawa Eri Vocal: Kishio Daisuke (as Yunoki Azuma)
Tune Based on: G. Bizet's "Minuet"

On clear days, as well as on rainy days, I see this flower, wet with dew,
Continuing to bloom through it all and I thought of you

What do you suppose was his expression as he gazed on the glass slipper you had left behind?
The tiny bird within your hand has soared away – for the first time he understood

The dazzlingness, the oppressiveness… in that violently beating heart
He must have felt at least sorrow, at least felt pain.
Magic is only a momentary dream… but even so, it can grant a wish.

Happiness… joy… the pleasure of passing time together
When you are here, when you’re nearby,
Though everything I’ve searched for fades fleetingly before me… I can believe.

On clear days, as well as on rainy days, I see this flower, wet with dew,
Continuing to bloom through it all and I thought of you
I’m thinking of you.

-----------------------------------------
Translation by Akifumi/setra - 2006.03.28

This song can be found on: 金色のコルだ　ヴォーカル集～espressivo

Flaming Ice

Wow... and just under eight months later Akifumi gets it together. ~_~
This song is not at all the one I expected to be posting first here, but such is life. This song is one of three original songs on Katou Kazuki's Prince of Tennis Musical Best Actor album.
The song is very... Keigo. The lyrics are perfect and Kazuki pulls it off wonderfully, though Suwabe Jun'ichi he is not.
This is very much my song of the moment and since the translation was complete so fast and I am rather pleased with it, I offer it for critique and comments.
よろしくお願いします～!

Flaming Ice
Words: Yamada Hiroshi Vocal: Katou Kazuki (as Atobe Keigo)

俺の前に立つつもりか?
それがどういう事だか分かるか?
悔やんだって遅すぎるな
気づいたトコで今更戻れないぜ

震えているな?どうしたんだ？
心が凍り始めてるんだろ
心配無い、すぐに終わる
粉々になって

氷の中　燃える炎
蒼白き孤高の光放つ時

虜にしてやる　俺の瞳で
光栄に思え　Burning on the Flaming ice!

Burning on the Flaming ice!

お前が瞳に映った瞬間(とき)に
俺にはすべてが　分かってたんだ
虜にしてやる　俺の瞳で
光栄に思え　Burning on the Flaming ice!

＊Repeat

凍れる炎に　焼かれてしまえ
美しく燃えろ
俺は、Flaming ice!

You intend to stand before me?
Do you understand what that means?
It’s too late to regret it now
Even if you’ve realized it, you can’t go back anymore.

You’re shivering? Why is that?
Your heart is starting to freeze, isn’t it?
Don’t worry, it’ll be over soon -
Shattered to pieces.

Within this ice – there burns a flame.
When its pale, isolated light is released...

I’ll make you a prisoner – with my eyes
Think of it as an honor. Burning on the Flaming ice!

Courage is something to be praised.
Clearly you have been taught this.
It’s regrettable, but that’s wrong.
The appropriate word is “recklessness”

Come at me with all you’ve got
I’ll be a serious opponent for you as well.
If we’re to fight, those are the rules.
You get it, don’t you.

This is a present. I’ll show it to you -
Though it’s wasted on you…
- this beautiful destruction.

* Licked by these flames – a butterfly burns up and falls
I’ll let you dance, in the palm of this hand.
Without leaving even ash, you’ll vanish in the wind.
Don’t be bitter about it. Burning on the Flaming ice!

At the moment you appeared before my eyes,
To me, it all became clear.
I’ll make you a prisoner – with my eyes
Think of it as an honor. Burning on the Flaming ice!

* Repeat

Be burned by this freezing flame!
Burn so beautifully.
I am Flaming ice!

-----------------------------------------
Translation by Akifumi/setra - 2006.02.26

This song can be found on: ミュージカル テニスの王子様 Best Actors Series 002

光差す方へ

Wow it's been awhile. I've been working on quite a few songs but haven't finished or posted them and still need to go back and edit the ones I have posted. But I figured as long as this song has been sitting here done for almost 2 years (wow, it's been that long?) I should post it.
"Hikari Sasu Hou e" is...special (aren't they all?). This song, from his second full album "Indicate," is another one of those songs he dedicated to his adoring fans. I heard it for the first time in Kobe, when he performed it at the Keep on Dancin' event. He said that he took all the feelings that he got from his fans and put them into this song. So if you've ever written him, this one's for you.
Of course, at the time he also said that it was the first time he'd ever performed it so he wasn't sure if he'd remember the words, but that's okay since Indicate hadn't been released yet and we wouldn't know them anyways. And even when we got the CD (which they were accepting preorders for...hint hint hint...) we would just think it was the "Special Live Version." In the middle of the song, during one of the musical interludes, he smiled a little nervously and quietly said 「間違いました」or "I messed up." *sweatdrop* You weren't supposed to /tell/ us!
I really want to make a fansite for him, using this as the title. I still can't listen to it without getting all the nervous, fluttery feelings I got at that time. Anyways, here's the translation!

光差す方へ (Toward the Light)Music, Vocal, and Lyrics: Naozumi Takahashi

It’s alright to cry, as hard as you can, until the morning comes
That’s just fine, you’re only a little too kindhearted
Lift your face toward the light
We’ll walk there together...

You just won't give up pretending nothing is wrong
Small and clumsy, you're shivering
Smiling, without a word, you bring your numb body closer

Because I’m always watching you try your best
When it seemed as if you would break and disappear I embraced you

I’ll always love you...until forever
I’ll be looking toward your bright smile

Until the morning sun broke over the horizon
We were crouched there like that, tears shining
I lift your bangs and kiss you gently, hearing your shy, small voice

It’s alright to cry, as hard as you can, until you can move again
That’s alright, until your wounds heal
Lift your face toward the light
We’ll walk out there together...

This song can be found on: Indicate

stay

Yet another translation...I'm on a roll!
This time the song is stay. This song tends to be a favorite of a lot of people, I've noticed. It was one of my favorites of his for a long time. The music is just so slow and touching. He's performed it in a variety of different ways, from singing it to music to acapella to playing it on the piano (or at least, that's what the reports of the Scene tour state). So I guess it's one that he likes too.
I posted this translation earlier, but I've edited it a bunch since then. It's still not as good as I want it, though. Anyways, enjoy!

stay
Music, Vocals, and Lyrics: Naozumi Takahashi

風が吹いている　いつもの場所で
君を待ってる　空見上げながら
色付く雲に君を重ねて思う
遠くに見える　「ゴメン」のシグナル

いつもそうだよ背を向け歩く僕
追いかけ笑ってる君の
真っ直ぐ伸びてくる　瞳の先に
小さな明かり灯し解き放つ…

won't you be my love このまま
明日へと歩いてこう
won't you be my love 永遠
笑ってずっと。もっと。ほら…
顔上げて…大丈夫…信じている…

胸に流れるメロディー口ずさえで
伝えたいんだ　君しかいないと…

無邪気に笑う事　忘れずにいて
一番の宝物だから
時には涙が頬をつたう夜も
静かにそっと君を引き寄せ…抱きしめよう

won't you be my loveこのまま
僕に未来あずけて
won't you be my love 永遠
守ってずっと。ずっと。ずっと…
いつまでも…ここにいる…
because I love you...stay.

The wind is blowing as I wait in the same old place for you and look up to the sky
In the dyed clouds, my thoughts of you build
Far away, I can see a signal that says "I’m sorry"

It's always like this - me walking away from you
As you chased after me, laughing.
Before your eyes that were gazing forward so honestly
A small shining light was released...

Won't you be my love as we are?
Let's walk onward to tomorrow
Won't you be my love forever?
We'll laugh always. More. See now...
Lift your face...it’s alright...I believe...

The melody flowing in my heart I can’t even express
I want to tell you: There is only you.

I won't forget to laugh at things innocently
Because you are my number one treasure
During the nights when tears run down your cheeks, too
Quietly, I softly draw you nearer...let me embrace you.

Won't you be my love as we are?
Leave the future to me
Won’t you be my love forever?
I'll protect you always. Always. Always...
For all time...I’ll be here...
Because I love you...stay.

This song can be found on: ~kiss you~

炎の涙で泣きじゃくれ

Apparently lunchtime is the time to post song translations.
As promised, the other song on the Suzaku single from Hachiyou Shou: Inori's Honoo no Namida de Nakijakure. This song is kinda special to me, because I got to see him perform it live at Haruka Matsuri. He was just so energetic and happy during the performance that every time I watch the DVD I feel like the performance is energizing me all over again.
Anyways, enjoy the translation!

炎の涙で泣きじゃくれ (Cry Tears of Fire)

* repeat

A faint cry touched my heart
And swallowed my irritation
Beneath the rubble was a frightened kitten
That small life was warm

I can’t protect the things I want to protect
I want to kick off this self
You who are like a kitten
When you get scared what should I do?
...my heart hurts...

Because no matter what, that sun
Never forgets the feeling of burning
It burns up this thing called sadness
Cry tears of fire
I want to be stronger

Within my fist I hide my anger
Though I ran with all my strength
I began to worry about slipping up
And stopped short within the wind

I want to grant ungrantable dreams
I came to know the meaning of happiness
You who are like a baby bird
I’ll wrap you in the palm of this hand
...I won’t break you...

That sun in the wide sky
May be alone, but it still is shining
Even in the sad times it lives strongly
Cry tears of fire
I’ll be reborn

If a precious person is smiling
While by my side – that is happiness
I don’t want to lose to the things I’m striving for
I embrace your tomorrow

Honoo no Namida de Nakijakure

Kasukana koe ga kokoro ni fureta
Ira tsuku kimochi nomikonda
Gareki no shita ni obieta koneko
chiisana inochi atatakai ne

Mamoritai mono mamorenai
Konna jibun wo ketobashitai yo
Koneko no you ni omae ga
Kowagaru toki wa doushitara ii?
...mune ga itai...

Anou taiyou ga donna toki mo
Moeagaru kimochi wasuretenai kara
Kurushimi nante moyashitsukuse
Honoo no namida de nakijakure
Tsuyoku naritainda

Kobushi no naka ni ikari wo kakushi
Chikara makase ni hashitta kedo
Sukoshi chigau to kizuki hajimeta
Futo tachitomaru kaze no naka de

Kanawanai yume kanaetai
Shiawase no imi wakarikaketa
Kotori no you ni omae wo
Kono tenohira de tsutsunde mitai
...kowasanai yo...

Ano taiyou ha hiroi sora de
Hitoribocchi demo kagayaiteru kara
Samishii toki mo tsuyoku ikiru
Honoo no namida de nakijakure
Umarekawarerunda

Daiji na hito ga waratteite
Soba ni iraretara sore ga shiawase sa
Ganbaru toki wa maketakunai
Omae no ashita wo dakishimeru

*repeat

This song can be found on: 遙かなる時空の中で～八葉抄～ キャラクターコレクション II -朱雀篇- and 遙かなる時空の中で ～八葉抄～ ヴォーカル・コレクション

ミルフィーユ･ドリーム

*gasp* It's /not/ a Nao-kun song! But I guess it /is/ kinda Nao-kun related.
This is Shimon's image song from Hachiyou Shou. Truth be told, when I first got the second vocal collection CD I liked this song better than Inori's. *sweatdrop* It's just so cute and catchy that it makes me happy. So I translated it and then translated Honoo no Namida afterward. I'll post the translation for the other song on the single as soon as I have a moment, since I think it's all typed up and ready to go even.
Enjoy!

ミルフィーユ･ドリーム (Mille-feuille Dream)
Vocals: Kouki Miyata (Shimon)

Like the carbonation in melon soda
Somehow I couldn’t grow used to it
Each time I remembered that painful past
It was like I disappeared

Hey, I wonder if there’s anything I can do?
Just running away is bad, isn’t it. I’ll try my best!

I want to give you sweetness in the sad times
With your favorite candy, I’ll return your smile
Like with meringue, I’ll whip up courage
Like swelling up into a pure white future

I’m like the milk floating in coffee
Because only I am floating
When I’m with you, I worry
That I’m a bother

Hey, where is the place I belong?
“It’s here,” you said and smiled for me

I want to give you sweetness in the times you are weary
With your favorite candy I want to make your tears forgotten
Like in mille-feuille, hope piles up
Let’s make a dream, together, the two of us

Hey, there may be nothing in my hand, but
Try believing, okay? I can grasp the future.

Surely there is something that
Only I can do, right? I’ll go look for it!
Like mille-feuille, feelings pile up
Let’s make a dream, together, the two of us

This song can be found on: 遙かなる時空の中で～八葉抄～ キャラクターコレクション II -朱雀篇- and 遙かなる時空の中で ～八葉抄～ ヴォーカル・コレクション

君に会えてよかった

Okay, I promised this to some people weeks ago and am only now getting up the motivation to post it. I'm a bad person.
I posted a translation of this song earlier this year, but I've made a lot of changes since then. Mainly in the first verse (since I finally figured out that second line sorta thanks to the dictionary double_dear pointed me to...thanks girls!), but I did some rewording other places too. Still not entirely happy with it, but at least it's a little better.
This is the song that Takahashi Naozumi does at the end of all his concerts. Well, except for that one show in Nagoya...but that was special. There was originally another part to the second verse, but as far as I know it hasn't been released on a CD anywhere. Someday I'll just have to sit down with the A to Z encore and try and jot it down. For the last line, he normally changes the last "kimi" (you) to "minna" (everyone). Enjoy!

君に会えてよかった (I'm Glad to Have Met You)
Lyrics, Vocals, and Music: Naozumi Takahashi

交差点の真ん中立ち止り　空を背にして笑う君を
見てガラにもなく　素直になりたくなる
回る言葉にできない　「I Love You」
心の中にしまい込んで　鼓動が届けばいいと思った
好きになること怖がってた　傷つくことを遠ざけてた
淋しさ抱きしめてた

君に会えてよかった　ホントの気持ちいつも言えるから
君に会えてよかった　空の青さも気付いたし
ほんの少し　小さな自分変わり始めてる
いつでも信じていれるから　強くなれる

長い夜が泣きながら過ぎてく
「Because I Miss You」だけど．．．いつも．．．

You stopped and stood in the middle of the intersection, laughing with your back to the sky
It doesn’t seem like me, but you make me want to be honest
"I love you" are the words I can't return
I hide them in my heart and wish the beats could convey them
I was afraid of growing to like things, kept hurtful things at a distance
I embraced loneliness

I'm glad to have met you, because I could always say my true feelings
I'm glad to have met you, because I became aware of the blueness of the sky
This little me is beginning to change just a little
Because I'll always keep believing, I'll be able to become strong

In the long night, I was overwhelmed with tears
All "because I miss you," but...always...
I didn't fall "in love," but then I realized it was "love"
I came to grasp what I wanted, but somehow my heart alone
wasn't moved

I'm glad to have met you, for I was able to pretend to say goodbye
I'm glad to have met you, even though tomorrow is uncertain
Just a little, it seems like my hand can reach the crimson clouds
If I am able to fix my eyes upon them, I can become stronger

If I take a deep breath and turn my tears into words to be given
A different world suddenly appears before my eyes. Ah ah, unstoppable tears
Ah ah, if they are overflowing just let them fall!

I'm glad to have met you, because I could always say my true feelings
I'm glad to have met you, I was able to pretend to say goodbye
I'm glad to have met you, even though tomorrow is uncertain
This little me is beginning to change just a little
Because I'll always keep believing, I'll be able to become strong
To have been able to meet you...to have been able to meet you (all)...I'm glad to have met you.

This song can be found on: 君に会えてよかった

電光石火の恋

I guess you could say this song is "back by popular demand." *grins* I posted this at baranoneko last month and got a whole lot of feedback on it. It's what kicked my butt into gear and made me open this journal, actually.
This is Hinoe's image song from Harukanaru Toki no Naka de 3, and was performed live for the first time at Haruka Matsuri 2005. When he discussed it on Troublemaker afterwards, Naozumi-san said that normally when he performs he hears a lot of "Kya~! Nao-kun! Kya~!" in the audience as girls squeal. However, during this song it was an entirely different feeling. I can't make the noise he made on the show, I'm not entirely sure what vowels would need to be typed. He said he was a little happy about the fact that he could now invoke that sort of reaction...and you could just /see/ the ear-to-ear grin on his face as he said so.
Anyways, enjoy the song!

電光石火の恋 (Lightning-fast Love)
Vocals: Naozumi Takahashi

Pluck up the red setting sun
It’s my burning heart
Look at me. If you don't, I'll cry
This entire ocean is my tears

Won't you become a seagull?
Show me that pure white complexion*
I wonder if there’s something beyond the horizon of your back
Let’s go do some treasure hunting

Hot and fleeting, a lightning-fast dream
Sweet and sour, lightning-fast love

Wait, just wait. Let me convey this small fever of mine
To you through my lips

Your fingers are a compass
That manipulates my feelings - I don't care whether you love or hate me
By that look, by those sighs
Show me where you feel it

Hot and fleeting, a lightning-fast dream
Sweet and sour, lightning-fast love

Unfulfilled desires
Are like trying to catch the moon reflected in the water
I’ll continue to search out something enjoyable
Until the day when I meet you

Hot and fleeting, a lightning-fast dream
The eternity of a single second, lightning-fast love

*素肌 (suhada) can mean either complexion or naked body...I thought that complexion sounded more poetic, but there's no way to get that double meaning.

This song can be found on: 遙かなる時空の中で3 薄月夜 一 ～黎明の章～, ネオロマンス SONGコレクション～愛のリズムは終わらない～ (short verson), and 遙かなる時空の中で3 ありあけの歌

Bunny Doll

Whoo! I beat Akifumi to posting! Heh. Anywho, here's my first contribution to the translations. Anyone who wants to give comments, please do. None of them sounded right to me, so I just went with to wear. If anyone has something better, please let me know.

This song can be found on: Genso-maden SAIYUKI - Image Album Vol.2

カナリヤ

As promised, here's カナリヤ (Canary).
A little background on this song, before the translation: During September and October of 2004, Naozumi Takahashi was hospitalized. He endured a horrible illness all that summer, during which he continued to work as a seiyuu and a singer. Since the illness was concentrated in his throat, you can imagine how difficult it was. Not only was he doing normal recordings, but he also did several NeoRomance events and two live tours during that summer (not to mention his radio show, events for the CDs he released, photo sessions, etc). During the middle of his Summer Wind tour, he lost his voice completely and had to be checked into a hospital. Days turned into weeks and his fans diligently waited for his return. Many wrote letters to him while he was in the hospital (not like I know anyone who did that...*innocent whistling*) and apparently so many cranes were sent to his agency that they had a very nice curtain in the doorway. Two months later, he was finally allowed to go back to work. And there was much rejoicing from everyone who was following it.
He's said in several interviews that during that time, when he couldn't speak or move from bed, he became very pessimistic and felt like he wanted to give up. But it was the encouragement of his staff, friends, and family...and the letters he got from his fans...that helped him to keep positive.
Thus: カナリヤ.
I was really surprised when I first heard it. I had been expecting, given the context, to hear one of his slow, touching songs (like 光差す方へ). Instead, it was bouncy and upbeat and almost playful. It almost makes me feel more moved than if it had been slow, because I feel like he's trying his hardest to put on a happy face now that his ordeal is behind him.
Anyways, I could rant all day on why I think he's wonderful, but this is long enough already. Enjoy!

カナリヤ (Canary)
Vocals, Lyrics, and Music: Naozumi Takahashi

Like...a canary who had lost its voice, I cowered in darkness
What I clung to was the words you gave me

My heart's cells would break if something like "it's over" were said
I would lose the strength to lift my face, and my mind could only come to the worst conclusions

I hadn't realized I had fallen in the gap between reality and illusion

My hands that had forgotten to even hold on
Grasped something while half awake – the words you gave to me
Letters scribbled on a page, saying I'm fine the way I am
Softly smiled as if wrapping around me

If I give up on these feelings I can't express, anything and everything becomes foolish
I'm sick of this unchanging scenery
And I'm struck with a disgust for the self I'm unable to change

The sun over the windowsill is supposed to be kind, but it somehow seemed malicious

A canary who had lost its voice and cowered in darkness
What I clung to was the words you gave to me
A canary who is able to spread his wings
That which gave him courage to cut through his chains was the words you gave

My hands that had forgotten to even hold on
Grasped something while half awake – the words you gave to me
Letters scribbled on a page, saying I'm fine the way I am
Softly smiled as if wrapping around me

The words you gave to me...
The words you gave to me...
The words that gave me heart...

I apologize right now for any and all tense/plural mixups that occur in this song. I changed tenses and plurals so many times I know there are a lot of mistakes. Commentary appreciated!

This song can be found on: scene~残したい風景

雨の日は晴れだった

Expect a lot of translations from scene~残したい風景 over the next week. It's one of those albums that came into my hands during a difficult time in my life and was absolutely perfect for my situation. Especially the following song. It's funny that out of all the songs on the album, two of my favorites are ones that he himself wrote.
I'd really appreciate feedback on this one, just because I found the 「いつの日か見た空」to be difficult to translate for some odd reason.
Next up is probably going to be カナリヤ. お楽しみに！

雨の日は晴れだった (The Rainy Day was Clear)
Vocals, Music, and Lyrics: Naozumi Takahashi

la la la．．．．

いつの日か思い出し
雨の空晴れと笑う．．．

In the sky we saw some day was the color of a mandarin sunset
In the sky we saw some day red dragonflies flew

But what color is the sky reflected in your eyes right now?
Cloudy with sadness, the rain falls...the rain falls
...but someday the rain will end...

In the sky we saw some day was a rainbow after the rain

The sky we saw some day was a starry sky where fireflies flew

But what color is the sky reflected in your eyes right now?
Within the storm of loneliness, the rain falls...the rain falls...
...but someday the stars will fall...

Above the clouds it’s always clear
But people are lost within a storm of worry and doubt
They close their hearts, the wind blows, the rain falls
...but...someday...

la la la...

When we remembered some day
The rainy sky smiled clearly...

Okay, about that last line...I was thinking more like "The rainy day will have smiled clearly" but I'm not sure if the tenses work (in either version actually).
And I love the bridge. I love it to death. It's my favorite set of lyrics right now. *beams*

This song can be found on: scene~残したい風景

愛しくて

Because there's nothing like 4:00am as a time to post a song translation...

愛しくて (Preciously)
Lyrics, Music, and Vocals: Naozumi Takahashi

あなたと交わした少ない言葉を　ココロに書いて読み返す夜に
「見ているだけでもイイ」とか言ってる　偽りだらけの私が笑う
「そばにいて欲しい」と言えたなら．．．本とはそんな強くなんてないから

逢えない時間が思いをつのらせていく
切ない気持ちも涙に変わるよ
どうしてこんなに　あなたで一杯になる　止められないから
Hold on!　愛しくて．．．

携帯握ってNO.押すだけ　ちぐはぐだらけの私のココロ
「抱きしめて欲しい」と言ったなら　壊れてしまう．．．そんな勇気ないから

見えないその距離　思いをつのらせていく
言えない言葉が涙に変わるよ
どうしてこんなにあなたで一杯になる　消せやしないから
Hold on!　愛しくて．．．

笑顔が好き．．．透き通った声が好き．．．
優しい瞳が好き．．．冷たい指先が好き．．．
だから愛してる．．．そうね愛してる．．．
壊れるほど愛してる．．．だけど．．．言えない．．．Ah．．．

逢えない時間が思いをつのらせていく
切ない気持ちも涙に変わるよ
どうしてこんなにあなたで一杯になる
止められないから．．．But! No!

見えないその距離　想いをつのらせていく
言えない言葉が涙に変わるよ
どうしてこんなにあなたで一杯になる
消せやしないから
Hold on!　愛しくて．．．切なくて．．．愛してる．．．

The few words I exchange with you I write in my heart and replay at night
"Just looking at you is fine," for example...my lying self laughs
"I want you to be near me," I could say...but I really don't have that strength

The times I can't see you invite my emotions
My painful feelings also turn into tears
Why are there this many for you? Because I can't stop them
Hold on! Preciously...

Just holding my cell phone with your number entered, my heart is confused
If I said "I want you to embrace me" I would break, because I don't have that kind of courage

I can't see you and that distance invites my emotions
The words I can't say change to tears
Why are there so many for you? Because I can't erase them.
Hold on! Preciously...

I like your smile...I like your clear voice...
I like your kind eyes...I like your cool fingertips...
So I love you...Yes, I love you...
I love you to the point of breaking...but...I can't tell you...Ah...

The times I can't see you invite my emotions
My painful feelings also change to tears
Why are there so many of you?
Because I can't stop them...But no!

I can't see you and that distance invites my emotions
The words I can't speak change to tears.
Why are there this many for you?
Because I can't erase them
Hold on! Preciously...painfully...I love you...

As usual, comments and corrections greatly appreciated. I should probably post a disclaimer somewhere on this journal that I don't own the rights to any of the songs/lyrics posted in this journal and that these translations aren't official in any way shape or form, they are simply done for the amusement and 勉強 of the person that posts them. If for some reason anyone in any official position contacts me and asks me to remove them, they will be removed immediately.
I also would like to comment that this song illustrates one of the many reasons why I love Naozumi Takahashi. This is the sort of song that will get stuck in your head with little to no provocation - and he wrote it all himself. Lyrics and music...it's all him. Add his sweet voice to the mix and you've got a hit. It's why I always feel inadequate translating his songs: really, sometimes there's no way to properly convey the feelings he wanted to convey in English.

This song can be found on: Indicate (album) and 愛しくて (single)

風花昇華

I think it's fitting that the first translation posted in this journal is the one it is named for. A little about the title of the song and why I have a hard time translating it:
「風花」- The first kanji means "wind" and the second means "flower." It's read as "kazahana," even though I can't find a definition for it anywhere. This is used in the song over and over as a metaphor for snowflakes. Afterall, snowflakes kinda do look like flowers and they kinda do dance on the wind. I translate it as "flowers of the wind" because I was feeling rather poetic at the time.
「昇華」- This part is a little harder. "Shouka" means "sublimation." Now, for all you chemistry people like me out there, we all automatically think that sublimation means the conversion of a solid to a gas. I guess this could possibly be worked into the meaning of the title, as snowflakes quickly melt and evaporate, especially with heat (passion?).
Dictionary.com also has the following definition for sublimation: "the process of converting and expressing a primitive instinctual desire or impulse to a form that is socially or culturally acceptable."
I don't know whether that's the sublimation that's meant by this set of kanji...but it sure does seem to fit with the mood of the song.
So put this all together: "Sublimation of the Wind's Flowers." Sounds pretty silly, doesn't it? Hence I'm going to just leave the title untranslated. Heh.
This song also had a lot of kanji given with different (or obscure) readings than normal. I've put the reading in parenthesis if it's indicated in the song. However, this makes it hard to read, so I might figure out some other way to do it. Suggestions appreciated.

風花昇華
Sung by: Ushiro Muki Jirettai (Souichirou Hoshi (Motomi), Naozumi Takahashi (Isato), and Kouki Miyata (Akifumi))
Lyrics: Mami Takubo

The solid bamboo forest dressed in gold
Like the beautiful prison of the Imperial palace
Though I'm wrapped in countless layers of icy silk robes
My breath turns to snowy fog

In the ephemeral winter butterfly I see you
Ah, my love rains down and piles up

This world without color is like an ink brush painting
My dark solitude is reflected in the icy surface of my heart
Unable to endure these icicles of emotion
My heart creaks and shivers

In the bravely blooming winter violet I see you
Ah, even the sighs from my love blow the snow violently

Flowers of the wind that sweep downward, without blemishing that kindness
As if embracing anything and everything
Earnest flowers of the wind - the sorrow and even the despair
Can be painted over and made pure with white

Holding the leaves of holly in the palm of my hand
It doesn't hurt as much as my heart
I toss a snowball at the illusion of your shadow
Receiving no answer, I shoulder my loneliness

In the teary-eyed winter rabbit I see you
Ah, if I don't repress my love it becomes an avalanche

Chaotically falling flowers of the wind - on your smile, on those tears
As if trying to bury all your scars
Dreamlike flowers of the wind - of that person who will vanish at any moment
Leave pure memories in white...

Truthfully, I love you
You're my only precious one
I wish that I’m able to become stronger...for your sake

Enveloped in the flowers of the wind, the sorrow and even the despair
Dissolve and dance as pure white flowers

Translation notes:
* 化粧 (makeup) is read よそお (outfit). I used "dressed" as a compromise.
* 絹衣 (silk robes) is just read as ころも, which means robes. Silly subtle implications.
* 雪煙　means "a fog-like spray of snow." Given that it was his breath, I pictured just foggy breath, hence my "snowy fog" translation.
* I would like to state right now that I hate translating 重ね (kasane). It means "pile" or "heap up" and it just never sounds as good in English as it does in Japanese. So I took liberties with it in this song to make the lyrics sound more poetic.
*色彩 (color, tints) is read as いろ, which also means color. I think it's just more poetic kanji.
* 孤独 (loneliness, solitude) is read as やみ (darkness). Hence "dark solitude."
*雪垂 was hard to translate. The first kanji means snow, the second kanji means to droop or hang. So I took it to mean something along the lines of icicles. I had the image of tree branches weighed down by icicles that creak and strain under the weight (and usually end up bringing down several power lines when they eventually break...). Incidentally, I could find no definition of "shizuri" (the reading of the second kanji) besides perhaps it being a reading for a name.
* 雪礫 means a snowball. I’m putting this as a note because it was the only one of the three "yuki" compounds that I didn't have to think much about and that made me happy, darnit.
* 幻影 (phantom, illusion) is just read as かげ (shadow). I took it to mean that he thought he saw her shadow, but it turned out to be an illusion. Hence the "receiving no answer" bit, because she wasn't actually there.
*哀愁 (sorrow, grief) is read as さみしさ (loneliness). Couldn't quite fit both without it sounding awkward, but I guess a more accurate translation would be "lonely sorrow."
* 昇華 (sublimation) is read as はな (flower). Here we go with the sublimation bit again. I took it to mean that the entire flowers thing in the song was actually an extended metaphor or expression of those feelings...and you can’t put that into the translation without it ending up like this paragraph. 8-p So I chose to use the "dissolve" definition because it sounded prettier and still can indicate that a little...right?

I’m sure I had other notes, but I can’t recall them right now. So for now this is the end of this translation.

This song can be found on: 雪月花 (variety CD set) and うしろ向きじれっ隊 (mini album)

ようこそ！(Welcome!)

Welcome to 風花昇華 (Kazahana Shouka), a translation journal started by baranoneko. Depending on circumstances, there might be two other people posting in this journal, but I'm going to get it off the ground for now.
What you will find here are translations of lyrics for various Japanese songs. There might be translations of other things posted here as well, but expect to see mainly songs. There will probably be a two column format used, with one column for the kanji lyrics and the other for the translation. Romaji most likely will not be posted unless people really want it.
Any translation posted here can be considered to be a work in progress and not 100% correct. Please feel free to comment with any suggestions as long as you do so in a respectful manner. Feedback is good! Also, please do not post any of these translations elsewhere without express permission of the translator.
Thank you so much for stopping by, and I hope you enjoy the translations!
